Maui County Counsil’s Committe Meeting – Tuesday, June 3rd..

By Sara & Martin

On Tuesday, June 3, 9am – 12 noon, the County Council’s Planning Committee will hold a meeting that may be the defining moment in our long struggle to create fair and balanced regulations for Vacation Rentals in Maui County. Some of us have been involved in this fight every step of the way and some of us just appeared – like we did at the Planning Commission hearings – when there is a CALL TO ARMS. This is one of those moments.

The County Council Chambers has about 200 seats. It is imperative, more than ever, that we fill those seats with our butts. Unlike the Planning Commission situation, we do not need people to talk. We have been meeting with the Council Members privately to explain our position and goals. Now we need them to take the limited time they have to make laws that are fair and equitable for our industry. They do not need to hear more testimony from us. But this is an election year and these elected leaders need to know that there are voters who support our position. Empty seats call that into question. Filled seats answer that question.

So consider this an official CALL TO ARMS! If there is any way that you can be in the County Council Chambers (eighth floor, County Building, 200 S. High Street, across from the Library in Wailuku), please be there. The meeting will run three hours.
It is called DEMOCRACY and this is your chance to use it. See you there.
